What do the labels on each card mean?

U+1D400 The Unicode codepoint the style's characters come from. Two styles can look almost identical and still be different characters with different device support. The codepoint is the only reliable way to tell which one you copied.

IGTTRB Platform support. Green renders reliably. Amber works, but breaks on some devices or in some fields. Struck through is filtered out or rejected by that platform.

Ready-made combos

The same style inside each frame. Type above and these update with it, then tap to copy the whole thing. The number is the character count, which matters if you are pasting into a field with a limit.

Sans italic is the quietest style on this site. It begins at U+1D608 and differs from ordinary text by a slant and nothing else: no serifs, no extra weight, no decoration. That makes it close to useless for standing out in a feed, and genuinely useful for the narrower job of marking one phrase as different from the text around it.

Where it works, and where it breaks

The run is contiguous across both cases with no borrowed characters. Digits are not covered, so numbers stay plain.

Where it works is the secondary line: a role, a location, a short qualifier sitting under a heavier name. Slanted text reads as an aside, which is the convention print established centuries ago and screens inherited, so a sans italic line under a sans bold name is legible as a hierarchy without either line shouting.

Where it fails is on its own. Used as the only styled element in a profile, a slant is subtle enough that many readers will not register it as deliberate at all, particularly at the size a phone renders a bio. If you want one styled line and only one, a heavier style will do more work.

It is one of four matching sans weights, and it is the one that most rewards being used alongside the others rather than alone.

Where it works

As a second line, almost always. A slant alone is subtle enough that many readers will not register it as deliberate, particularly at the size a phone renders a bio, so it does little work on its own.

Under a heavier line it does a great deal. Sans bold for the name and sans italic for the role beneath is a hierarchy the eye reads instantly, because slanted text has meant 'aside' in print for centuries and screens inherited the convention.

It is one of four matching sans weights, and it is the one that most rewards being used alongside the others rather than alone.

Common questions

Is this too subtle to bother with?

On its own, often yes: at phone bio size a slant alone may not read as deliberate. It earns its place as a secondary line beneath a heavier style, where the contrast does the work and the slant signals an aside.

Why is there no digit coverage?

The italic sets in Unicode cover letters only. Digits were encoded for the upright weights: bold, sans, sans bold, monospace and double-struck all include them, but not for the slanted ones.
