What do the labels on each card mean?

U+1D400 The Unicode codepoint the style's characters come from. Two styles can look almost identical and still be different characters with different device support. The codepoint is the only reliable way to tell which one you copied.

IGTTRB Platform support. Green renders reliably. Amber works, but breaks on some devices or in some fields. Struck through is filtered out or rejected by that platform.

Ready-made combos

The same style inside each frame. Type above and these update with it, then tap to copy the whole thing. The number is the character count, which matters if you are pasting into a field with a limit.

Cherokee style uses characters from the Cherokee syllabary, a writing system devised by Sequoyah in the 1820s and still in use today. Several of its characters resemble Latin capitals: not by descent but by coincidence, since Sequoyah drew on letterforms he had seen without knowing their sounds.

Where it works, and where it breaks

Coverage is patchier than Greek or Cyrillic. Only around twenty Latin letters have a convincing Cherokee lookalike, and there is no lowercase distinction in the syllabary, so lowercase input maps to the same characters as uppercase. Digits are not covered.

Support is weaker too. Cherokee is a minority script and font coverage is thinner than for the major living scripts. This is one of the styles most likely to show as boxes on an older device.

Worth being aware that these characters belong to a living writing system used by a real community, rather than being decorative glyphs. That is not a reason to avoid them, but it is a reason not to treat them as ornaments.

There is a further consideration specific to this style. These characters belong to a living writing system used by a real community, not a decorative block invented for typesetting. That is no reason to avoid them, but it is a reason not to treat them as ornaments, and a reason the usual warning about lookalike substitution applies with a little more weight here than elsewhere.

Screen readers that support the script will announce Cherokee syllables; those that do not will skip the characters entirely. Either way the name is not read as what you typed.

Common questions

Why does my lowercase come out as capitals?

The Cherokee syllabary has no case distinction in the way Latin does, so there is nothing to map lowercase onto. Both cases produce the same characters.

Why do some letters stay unchanged?

Only around twenty Latin letters have a Cherokee character that resembles them closely enough to be worth substituting. The rest pass through as they are.

Is this likely to render properly?

Less reliably than the Greek or Cyrillic styles. Cherokee is a minority script with thinner font coverage, so boxes are more likely on older Android devices in particular.
