Roblox is the platform where the answer is most genuinely it depends, and being straight about that saves you a wasted change. There are three separate places text appears, your username, your display name, and chat, and they behave completely differently. Only one of them is worth trying styled text in.

Which field accepts styled text, and which rejects it.
Which field accepts styled text, and which rejects it.

How to use it

Copy a style above. In Roblox, go to Settings, then Account Info, and find Display Name. Paste and save. If the name is rejected, do not try to force it through with substitutions, simplify instead. Start with a plain version, confirm it saves, then add styling one step at a time until you find where the filter draws the line.

What works where

Your username is fixed and strict: 3 to 20 characters, letters, numbers and a single underscore, which cannot sit at the start or the end. It is among the tightest name fields in gaming and accepts nothing decorative at all.

Your display name is the one that accepts Unicode, but accepts is not the same as accepts everything. Roblox runs an automatic filter over display names, and it rejects characters it cannot validate: rare blocks, invisible characters, and unusual combinations are the ones most likely to be refused. Simpler, more readable styles pass more often than heavy decorative ones. Changes are limited to once every seven days, so it is worth getting right rather than iterating.

Chat is different again, and this one surprises people. Roblox normalises text in chat before it is displayed, stripping unfamiliar Unicode. This is deliberate: lookalike characters are an obvious way to slip filtered words past a moderation system, so the platform removes them server-side. There is no workaround, and looking for one is a poor idea: moderators treat lookalike characters used to evade filters as evidence of intent.

Common questions

Why was my display name rejected?

Roblox filters display names automatically and refuses characters it cannot validate. Rare Unicode blocks, invisible characters and unusual combinations are the most likely to fail. Try a simpler, more readable style rather than substituting lookalike characters. That route is both less reliable and more likely to be read as an attempt to evade the filter.

Why doesn't styled text work in chat?

Roblox normalises chat text before displaying it, which strips unfamiliar Unicode. That is a deliberate safety measure: characters that look like letters but are not can be used to push filtered words through a moderation system, so they are removed server-side. It applies to everyone and there is no setting that changes it.

Can I use styled text in my Roblox username?

No. Usernames are 3 to 20 characters, letters, numbers and at most one underscore, which cannot start or end the name. Nothing decorative is accepted. The display name is the field that takes styled text.
