So games constrain them far more tightly than social platforms do, and unlike Instagram, most of them charge you to change one.

The three things every game shares

A fixed identifier and a changeable display name. The first is plain and usually permanent. The second accepts more. Styled text belongs in the second, never the first.

A hard character limit, counting everything. Free Fire allows twelve for a nickname and six for a clan tag. PUBG Mobile and BGMI allow fourteen. Decorative frames count against it: `꧁༒ ༒꧂` costs four characters before you have typed a letter, which is a third of a Free Fire nickname.

A cost, and no preview. Free Fire wants a Name Change Card or 390 diamonds. PUBG and BGMI want a Rename Card, usable once a day. You type the name, confirm it, and only then find out whether it fit or whether a character was refused.

That last point is the whole reason to compose a name somewhere else first. Counting it here costs nothing. Finding out in the game costs the card.

A word on lookalike characters

Substituting Greek or Cyrillic letters that resemble Latin ones is a common trick for getting a name past a filter. Platforms know it, and moderators generally read it as intent rather than decoration. Roblox strips those characters from chat for exactly this reason. Used openly on your own tag it is fine; used to disguise something it is a poor idea.
